Mapelio Weekly Quiz & Monthly Prize Draw - Full Terms and Conditions

1. Overview & Eligibility

  • Free to Enter: There is strictly no purchase necessary or cost to enter the Mapelio weekly map quiz or monthly prize draw.
  • Eligible Regions: The prize draw and inclusion on the leaderboard are open strictly to legal residents of the United Kingdom, mainland United States, European Union member states, and Australia.
  • Age Requirement: Entrants must be 18 years of age or older at the time of entry.

2. How to Enter & Leaderboard Tracking

  • Weekly Entry: Each week, a new map puzzle will be released. Entries must be submitted via the official form on mapelio.com.
  • Consistent Email Required: To ensure your score tracks accurately on the annual leaderboard, you must use the exact same email address for every submission. Scores cannot be manually merged across different email addresses.
  • Changing Your Guess: Made a typo or changed your mind? No problem! You may correct your answer for the current week's quiz by resubmitting the form with the same email address. Your latest submission will overwrite any previous answers for that week.
  • Entry Limits: Resubmitting a form to update your answer will not increase your total entries. Only one correct answer per user per weekly quiz counts toward the monthly prize draw.

3. Quiz Rules & Name Spellings

  • English Standard Spellings: To keep our automated scoring system fair and sane, all answers must be submitted using their standard English spelling (for example: Venice instead of Venezia, or Cardiff instead of Caerdydd).

    A brief note from us: We deeply respect local languages, dialects, and native endonyms - and as cartography enthusiasts, we love that places have rich, multilingual identities! However, our robot scorekeeper is a bit set in its ways and only understands standard English atlas spellings. Thank you in advance for forgiving our machine's linguistic limitations!

4. The Prize & Winner Selection

  • The Prize: The monthly prize is one £40 Mapelio gift voucher (or local currency equivalent based on current exchange rates). Vouchers can be redeemed against any physical fine art print on mapelio.com . Vouchers cannot be used to purchase physical or digital gift cards and cannot be exchanged for cash.
  • Winner Selection: One winner will be randomly selected on the first business day of each calendar month from all eligible correct entries submitted during the preceding month.
  • Notification: Winners will be notified via the email address used to enter the quiz within 5 business days of the draw. If a winner does not respond within 14 days, Mapelio reserves the right to draw an alternate winner.

5. Leaderboard & Privacy

  • Anonymous Display: Your privacy matters to us. Public leaderboard positions are displayed strictly via an anonymised identifier (e.g., MAP-XXXXXX). Your full name, email address, or specific personal details will never be displayed publicly. You will receive your unique leaderboard ID via email after you have submitted an answer (do check your junk/spam folder in case it ends up there).
  • Annual Reset: Leaderboard scores accumulate throughout the calendar year and reset to zero on the 31st of December at 23:59 GMT each year.

6. Email Communication & Marketing

  • Unsubscribing: Entrants who opt-in to receive weekly puzzle updates, leaderboard news, and marketing announcements from Mapelio are free to unsubscribe at any time via the link in the footer of any email. Unsubscribing from marketing emails will not invalidate any entries already earned for the current month's draw, though you will no longer receive weekly puzzle notifications.

7. Social Sharing & Third-Party Content

  • If you choose to share a link to the Mapelio quiz or leaderboard via email, social media, messaging apps, or any other platform, you do so independently. Mapelio accepts no responsibility or liability for any messaging, claims, or context attached to third-party user shares.

8. General Conditions & Changes

  • Modifications: Mapelio reserves the right to modify, suspend, or cancel the weekly quiz, leaderboard, or monthly prize draw (or any part of these terms) at any time, for any reason, without prior notice.
  • Updates to Terms: These terms and conditions may be updated periodically. Entrants are encouraged to review this page regularly to stay informed of the current terms.
  • Promoter: This promotion is operated by Mapelio. This contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, or Klaviyo.
  • Humanity: There may be times when we get it wrong or something doesn't go to plan.  Please let us know if we're not already on it and we'll do our utmost to get it sorted.  We're humans too and sometimes we mess up...!
